In mid November eight families in Fasayil al Fouqa were served with demolition orders on their homes. All eight homes are within the area of the village that has been given permission to build, and the homes belong to people who have lived in the villae for many years. On the same day the Israeli Occupation Forces also served demolition orders on families in the village of al-Duyuk located few kilometres west of Jericho City.

The community of Fasayil al Fouqa is classified as Area C under the Oslo accords, giving the occupation forces complete control, and denying the people the right to permanent homes, water, electricity or other infrastructure. However, in a deal brokered by the Middle East Peace Envoy on 13th May 2008, 14 villages in area C were given the right to build and have basic infrastructure. Fasayil al Fouqa was one of those 14 villages, largely due to the campaigning of the local community and international supporters to establish a school in the village.

Fasayil documentOne of the demolition orders was served on Mohammed, a young man who has lived in Fasayil village since he was born in 1991. He is now works as a farmer in the village and was building a house for his family.

The eight families receiving demolition orders have been given 45 days to leave, and they intend to challenge the demolition orders in court.
