Community activists in Tubas are restoring an 80-year-old house to create a unique women only space in the town. This feminist centre will combine culture, entertainment, history, education, a café and economic opportunities in food preserves and production.

This traditional house is more than 80 years old. It was owned by Mr. Hassan Awad Ahmed Al-Khudairi, and has now been given to the town for community work.

It is important to us for many different reasons. It was built by many families in the town, with everyone giving their labour on a voluntary basis. The original stone structure and doors are older than the occupation, so it represents our history and connection to the land. We are now preserving it, to maintain it for future generations, and by dong tis we are preserving our heritage and our history.

It will be the first place only for women. So, it will be unique, providing entertainment and a cultural café that brings together all women from the Jordan Valley and other regions of Palestine. It will also be a place for the solidarity committees to receive singers on the feminist side and work with them.

We plan for it to be a place for training and learning about the importance of feminist work and the history of feminist volunteer work.

In addition, there will be space for women to work together, to process and preserve Palestinian food.

We have been assisted by Italian Solidarity Committees in restoring the building, the Palestinian Dalia Foundation, and the British Solidarity groups.

However, we still need more support. We have built and finished the interior walls, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen, but there is a lot more to do.

We would appreciate the support of internationals and Palestinians to help us to progress this very important and unique project.
