Night time demolitions Al Duyuk
At 7pm on 7th April army jeeps drove into the Al Duyuk community, north-west of Jericho, and demolished four animal shelters. They came under cover of darkness, and immediately demolished the buildings without speaking to the owners first.
This was a particularly aggressive action as the owners had appealed to the courts against the demolition orders, and the orders had been frozen pending a full court hearing. Once again, the Israeli army were acting not only against international law, but also against the decisions of their own courts.
Like other farming and bedouin communities, the people of Al Duyuk awake at sunrise (around 5am). At 7pm the families would be having their evening meal, or preparing the bedding for the night. With no electricity, the community would have been in darkness when the army arrived, making this a particularly frightening experience.
