March 2023: Human rights violations in the Jordan Valley
1st March 2023:
The Israeli Occupation foces stormed Aqbat Jaber refugee camp in Jericho. Shooting with live ammunition, the soldiers injured three citizens whom they arrested shortly afterwards. One young Palestinian, Mahmoud Jamal Hassan Hamdan, 22 years old, was killed.
The city of Jericho is still under siege, the entrances and exits to the town and villages arre still impeded.
2nd March 2023:
Israeli settlers forced the shepherds from Khirbet Al-Maarajat, west of Jericho, to leave the pastures by holding them at gunpoint.
Armed Israeli settlers invaded the community of Arab Al-Malehat, west of Jericho, and fired live bullets at the citizens.
6th March 2023:
Occupation forces stormed the city of Jericho abnd confiscated a mobile home.
9th March 2023:
The Israeli Civil Administration entered Homsah al-Tahta village and issues a ‘Stop Work’ order on Ali Abu Farah for his under-construction facility.
10th March 2023:
A group of Israeli settlers entered Khirbet Al-Deir, northern Jordan Valley, with bulldozers and started to confiscate three water springs used by Palestinian farmers to irrigate their crops. The springs are located on Palestinian owned land, the families living in the area depend on the water for the agriculture which is their livelihood.
18th March 2023:
The Israeli Civil Administration issued four Demolition Orders for houses in Al-Jiftlik village. The four families have been living in Al-Jiftlik since long before the occupation of the West Bank in 1967: Ahmed Mari Bani Odeh; Bani Ouda; Mohammed Bani Odeh; Ayman Bani Odeh.The policy of house demolitions is one of the strongest policies used by the occupation authorities to displace Palestinians from the Jordan Valley.
22nd March 2023:
Settlers attacked the family of a woman named Fathia in Khirbet Al-Farisiya. When she tried to prevent them from beating her family members in the garden of her house, the settlers hit her with stones. An ambulance had to treat Fathia. Israeli Occupation Forces and Israeli police showed up and interrogated Fathia‘s husband for hours whilst allowing the settlers to return to their settlement without questioning, let alone arresting them.
23rd March 2023:
Israeli settlers vandalized 10 water tanks owned by the farmer Muhammad Bani Odeh. He used the tanks to store water for the animals of Khirbet Umm Al-Abr, northern Jordan Valley. About one month ago, his house was destroyed by settlers.
25th March 2023:
Abdul Karim Awadeh, a resident from Khribet Homsa, was assaulted by two Israeli settlers from a new outpost near the settlement Bekaot, leading to wounds on his head and leg. Moreover, they killed one of his sheep. The settlers attacked when he was grazing his herd in the land surrounding the village. The settlers‘ actions follow the strategy of intimidating the Palestinian population into leaving their land in order to facilitate the land grab.
27th March 2023:
Occupation Forces closed all roads east of the Tubas area with bulldozers. As a result, the northern Jordan Valley is being isolated from the city Tubas and the village Tammoun. The IOF shoot a Palestinian boy in the leg whilst raiding Aqbat Jaber refugee camp in Jericho.
30thMarch 2023:
The Israeli occupation army demolished the home of the family Atta Zaid in the village of Al-Nu‘ma in the southern Jordan Valley, leaving Atta and his children homeless.
31st March 2023:
Israeli settlers put up banners stating ‘Sovereignty over the Jordan Valley has a national consensus’.
