Jordan Valley activists raise their voices for the release of wounded prisoner Israa Jaabis
On 28th November, Jordan Valley residents joined popular resistance activists and international supporters in Khirbet al-Hadidiya. They raised their voices in protest, calling for the speedy release of wounded Palestinian prisoner Israa Jaabis. The group demands that all international institutions and human rights organisations take up her case.
Two years ago, Israa – a 33-year-old Palestinian mother from Jerusalem – suffered from severe burns after a technical fault inside her car set off an explosion. Israel sentenced Israaa to 11 years in prison, saying that she was trying to blow her car up at a checkpoint.
“An Israeli soldier approached her after she left her burning car, yelled and pointed his gun at her, and proceeded to arrest her on the spot,” Addameer said.
Israa needs urgent care but Israel denies her any treatment or surgery.
“She is incapable of performing daily activities like eating, using the bathroom, or even changing her clothes,” Addameer reported.
“While Jaabis’s condition requires extensive medical and mental care, the Israeli authorities completely neglect her pressing needs.”
Israa needs at least eight surgery operations, including a skin graft around her right eye and facial reconstruction.
Also in Al Hadidiya, Jordan Valley Solidarity activists and Palestinian groups from the West Bank began to rebuild the house of the Omar Bsharat family. The Israeli occupation has destroyed Omar’s house two times. The activists brought materials for rebuilding, as wells as mattresses and blankets for the family. International groups also donated money for the materials.
