Stop work order Zbeidat 14March 2013On 14 March, 2013 the Israeli army issued a stop work order to Hasan Abed Jarmi, the head of the village council, in the village of Zbeidat. The order was directed against 100 of his date trees which he planted between 2-6 years ago next to his residence. The excuse given for the order was that they are located in the boundaries of the settlement of Argaman. Argaman was the second settlement established in the Jordan Valley in 1968 and in the process confiscated over 3,500 dunums of Zbeidat’s land. These date trees supply a necessary income for his family and his neighbor’s family. The order stated that Hasan has 45 days to remove the trees or face further repercussion, including fines and the uprooting of his trees.
