2025 for Palestinians in the Jordan Valley
For Palestinians in the Jordan Valley, 2024 ended as it began, with settlers and occupation forces working hand-in-hand to harrass and attack our communities, steal our land and drive us from our homes.
Hammamat al-Malih:
Colonial settlers prevented farmers in the Um Malqaba area, ruined Hammamat al-Malih, from cultivating their land. The settlers called the occupation army, and the Palestinian farmers were detained for more than two hours, then removed from the area. They were prohibited from continuing to plow their land and were threatened with confiscation of their agricultural equipment if they attempted to return to work the land.
Bardala:
On 23rd December armed settlers established an outpost to the west of Bardala Village – see separate report.
Tayaseer:
On 24th December settlers stole 25 cows from the village of Tayaseer in the Tubas Governorate, located in the northern Jordan Valley, during the night hours. The cows belonged to the citizen Jamal Al-A’idah. Activists attempted to trace the cattle but were unable to determine their whereabouts, and the cows have not been found to this day. This act is part of the settlers’ policy aimed at destroying the Palestinian economy to force their displacement.
Khirbet Ibziq:
On December 30, Israeli settlement police, along with a large force of the Israeli occupation army, raided the premises of the village council in Khirbet Ibziq. They confiscated the jeep belonging to the council’s president, Abdel Majeed Khdairat, along with his mobile phone and personal ID card. Similarly, they confiscated the mobile phone and personal ID card of Ibrahim Abu Mohsen.
Al-Auja:
The Antiquities Department of the so-called Israeli Civil Administration began, just a few days before New Year, the process of fencing off an archaeological site located north of the town of Al-Auja (Jericho) in preparation for taking control of it. Surveillance cameras were also placed on the site.
Our struggle continues
We will continue to work together as a community to remain steadfast and continue to live on our land. Our slogan, To Exist is to Resist, have never been more true. We would like to thank all the local and international activists who have supported us this year, and will welcome everyone who wants to work with us for freedom and justice in 2025.
