For the next generation: Jordan Valley summer camp
From 8th – 12th July 2021 a summer camp was held in the northern Jordan Valley, attended by 50 children aged 9 – 15 years old.
The camp included recreational activities, handicrafts, drawing, writing stories, and story-telling. The camp also hosted a group of activists, who talked about their memories, the beauty of the local area and its landmarks. The stories of the children and activists will be edited in a small booklet.
The camp program was hosted by the the village of Ein al-Beida for two days and the village of Bardala for another two days. On the fifth day the children were taken on an outing to the village of Al-Badhan – a tourist village where there are swimming pools and gardens. There were so many children that a 50-seater bus and two cars were needed to get everyone there.
This was all provided free-of-charge to the local children and would have been the highlight of the summer for many of them.
We would like to thank Abu Ahmed’s house for providing some paint (which we will, of course, replace). Thanks must also go to the 10 volunteers who organised the camp’s activities. We also thank all those who donated to make the camp a success and the local volunteers who put a smile on the children’s faces.
