We Will Not Be Uprooted – Tree Planting in Fasayel, Occupied Jordan Valley
The community of Fasayal invites you to join them this coming Saturday at 5pm as they put down new roots in the wake of last week’s brutal attempts to ethnically cleanse them from their village. As many of you know, the Israeli Occupation Forces came to the village of Fasayel last Tuesday and demolished 18 homes and 6 other structures. Families in Fasayal have been without shelter, electricity or other basic amenities for nearly a week now, and have received no meaningful support. The community of Fasayel is in need of solidarity on many fronts, including permanent housing to replace their demolished homes. This Saturday the Jordan Valley Solidarity Campaign is taking the first step in what will become an ongoing campaign to support this community as they remain steadfast on their land.
NGOs with the capacity to provide immediate relief for these families have failed to do so. While we hope to help them construct permanent housing in the near future, we will be joining them this Saturday in a symbolic tree planting to raise awareness about the situation in Fasayel and to make clear to all the world that these families intend to stay rooted on their land. By putting down new roots these families are defying the Israeli military’s efforts to displace them, and asserting their unbreakable will to exist and resist.
The demolitions in Fasayel are yet another example of the ongoing Nakba being perpetrated in the Jordan Valley. In commemoration of this Nakba we will be labeling each tree with the name of a Palestinian village that has been destroyed by the Israeli occupation. By remembering these villages we connect Fasayel to its history, and assert that it will not join the long list of villages erased from Palestine’s landscape and memory.
Please let us know if you are planning on coming, or if you would like to learn more about the situation in Fasayal. For more information email jordanvalleysolidarity@gmail.com.
